We're an independent, non-denominational church in Harlan creating a relaxed, authentic space to encounter God and grow in biblical truth. Our doors are open to everyone – whether you're exploring faith for the first time or looking for a new church home.

What to Expect

A casual, cafe-style setup with tables instead of pews. Wear whatever makes you comfortable – jeans, t-shirts, dresses, or suits – there's no dress code. Our worship features live, upbeat music with lyrics displayed on screens, blending contemporary songs with traditional hymns and praise choruses. The goal is always to focus our music in authentic worship of our Lord and Savior. Services include a biblically-based sermon from Pastor Chris, and communion is available weekly for all believers.

When & Where to Join Us

Sunday Experience:

  • 9:00 am: Coffee, juice, and donuts
  • 9:45 am: Family worship begins (with upbeat, contemporary music)
  • 10:15 am (approx.): Kids are dismissed to Kids Encounter Church
  • Service typically ends around 11:00 am

Come as you are—that’s our motto! You’ll see folks in jeans, t-shirts, dresses, or even suits. There’s no dress code, no judgment—just a place where you can be yourself.

Convenient parking is available off both Tarkington Street and 12th Street. There's plenty of space, and you won't have trouble finding a spot.

We recommend arriving about 15 minutes before the 9:45 am service start time to grab coffee and find a seat. If you arrive at 9:00 am, you can enjoy coffee and donuts with others before the service begins.

Just yourself! A Bible or notebook is optional if you like taking notes during the sermon.

Our gathering typically runs from 9:45 am until about 11:00 am.

We have a live worship team that leads contemporary, upbeat music with lyrics displayed on screens so everyone can participate. We also blend in hymns and praise songs, and the goal is always to focus the music in authentic worship of our Lord and Savior.

Absolutely! We have a staffed nursery for children from newborn to age 3, and Kids Encounter Church for ages 4-10 that begins after the worship portion of the service (around 10:15 am).

While we offer dedicated children's programs (staffed nursery and Kids Encounter Church), your children are absolutely welcome to stay with you in the main service. Our casual table setup makes it comfortable for families to sit together. We understand every family has different needs, and we support whatever works best for yours.

We don't "pass the plate" during our services. Instead, we offer multiple ways to give, including online giving and offering boxes located at the doors of our Worship Center. We trust God completely for our finances and believe that those who choose to give their tithes and offerings do so from the heart, not out of pressure or guilt.

Not at all! Everyone is welcome to fully participate in our services, including communion.

No, we won't put you on the spot or ask you to stand. We want you to feel comfortable and welcome without any pressure or awkwardness. Kids & Family at FEC

Your children matter to us! At Fresh Encounter Church, we create a fun, safe environment where kids can learn about God while giving parents space to fully engage in worship.

Sunday Morning Flow

Our staffed nursery (newborn to age 3) is available throughout the entire service.

Children ages 4 and up begin in the main service with their families for worship. Around 10:15 am, they're invited to transition to Kids Encounter Church for age-appropriate Bible teaching and activities.

Family-Friendly Options

We believe in supporting your family's preferences:

  • Parents are welcome to remain in the nursery with their children if desired, with live streaming so you can see the main gathering while tending to your little ones
  • Children of any age may stay in the main service for the entire gathering
  • Parents can accompany younger children to Kids Encounter Church to help them settle in
  • Our casual table setup makes it comfortable for families to sit together
  • Feel free to step out with your children whenever needed
